Fatal Collision on SR-85 Near Saratoga Avenue Causes Major Traffic Disruptions
A fatal collision occurred today on northbound State Route 85 near Saratoga Avenue, resulting in significant traffic disruptions and a temporary closure of all northbound lanes. The incident was reported at approximately 3:40 PM when a white mid-sized pickup truck was observed traveling southbound in the northbound lanes at high speeds, weaving through traffic and nearly causing multiple accidents.
The collision involved a white Tesla Model Y and a Toyota Tacoma, both of which sustained major front-end damage. Emergency responders, including the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and San Jose Fire Department, arrived on the scene shortly after the incident. Despite their efforts, a 39-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:14 PM. The coroner was notified, and two evidence tows were requested to remove the damaged vehicles.
The northbound lanes of SR-85 were closed for several hours, with traffic being diverted to SR-87. A SigAlert was issued to inform drivers of the closure and to use alternative routes. By 8:05 PM, all lanes were reopened, and the SigAlert was canceled. Motorists are advised to remain cautious and adhere to traffic advisories to ensure safety on the roads.
