Multi-Vehicle Collision Causes Major Delays on I-80 in Oakland
A significant traffic collision involving a semi-truck and multiple vehicles occurred late Monday night on the westbound I-80 transition to eastbound I-580 in Oakland. The incident, which took place at approximately 10:19 PM on September 9, 2024, resulted in a vehicle fire and the temporary closure of all lanes.
Emergency responders, including the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Oakland Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene. The collision involved a white Ford Mustang that caught fire after hitting a wall and a semi-truck. Fortunately, all parties involved were reported to be conscious and breathing. The fire was eventually extinguished, and Caltrans was notified to assist with traffic management and road closures.
The collision caused significant traffic delays, with a hard closure implemented to manage the situation safely. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. The lanes were reopened by 1:22 AM, but residual delays were expected. Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and remain vigilant, especially around blind curves and transition ramps.
