Multi-Vehicle Collision Causes Traffic Disruption on I-880 in San Leandro

Anderson Franco Law

A multi-vehicle collision occurred late Monday morning on Interstate 880 South near Lewelling Boulevard in San Leandro, causing significant traffic disruptions. The incident, reported at approximately 11:56 AM, involved a gray BMW i3, a white truck, and a black BMW sedan. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, with fire units initially blocking lanes 1 and 2 of the expressway.

The collision resulted in all lanes being temporarily closed, leading to severe traffic congestion in the area. By 12:27 PM, lanes 2 through 5 were reopened, allowing traffic to gradually resume. One individual sustained a laceration, but the extent of other injuries remains unclear at this time. A tow truck was called to remove the damaged black BMW from the scene.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and consider alternative routes to avoid delays. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the accident. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate event, and we urge drivers to remain vigilant and prioritize safety on the roads.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone gets hurt because of another person’s carelessness, it is called negligence. In these situations, the person who got hurt, known as the victim, has the right to seek compensation. This means they can ask for money to help cover things like medical bills and other costs related to the incident. To prove negligence, the victim must show that the other person had a duty to be careful, did not act carefully, and that this lack of care directly caused the harm.

In many cases, the person who caused the harm might have insurance. This insurance can help pay for the victim’s expenses. For example, if the incident involved a car accident, the driver’s car insurance might cover the costs. The victim can file a claim with the insurance company to get the money they need. It’s important for the victim to keep records of all their expenses and any other evidence that shows how they were affected.

Sometimes, insurance companies might not want to pay the full amount the victim asks for. In these cases, the victim might need to negotiate with the insurance company or even take legal action to get fair compensation. It’s important for victims to know their rights and to seek help from a lawyer if they need it. A lawyer can help them understand the legal process and make sure they get the compensation they deserve.
