Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-880 in Fremont Causes Major Traffic Disruption

Anderson Franco Law

A significant traffic collision involving multiple vehicles occurred on the northbound I-880 near Dixon Landing Road in Fremont on the evening of December 11, 2024. The incident, reported at approximately 8:35 PM, involved at least four vehicles, including a semi-truck and a motorhome, leading to the blockage of five to six lanes.

Emergency services promptly responded to the scene, with one individual transported to Stanford Hospital with chest, back, and neck injuries. The collision resulted in substantial traffic delays as authorities worked to clear the scene and tow the damaged vehicles, including a Mazda and a Toyota Prius, both of which sustained rear-end damage.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes as cleanup and investigation efforts continue. The California Highway Patrol and local towing services are actively working to restore normal traffic flow. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate event, and we urge drivers to exercise caution and patience while traveling in the vicinity.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone gets hurt because of someone else’s carelessness, it’s called negligence. In these cases, the person who got hurt might have the right to get help or money for what happened. To prove negligence, the injured person needs to show that the other person had a duty to be careful, didn’t do their duty, and that this caused the injury. For example, if a driver doesn’t pay attention and causes an accident, they might be considered negligent.

Victims of such incidents can seek compensation for their troubles. This can include help with medical bills, lost time at work, and other costs that came up because of the accident. Sometimes, the person who caused the accident might have insurance that can help pay for these costs. The injured person can file a claim with the insurance company to try to get this compensation.

Insurance claims can be a big part of getting help after an accident. The injured person or their family can contact the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. They will need to provide details about what happened and how it affected them. The insurance company will then look into the claim and decide if they will pay and how much. It’s important for the injured person to keep records of everything related to the accident, like doctor visits and any other expenses, to help with the claim.
