Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-880 in San Jose Causes Traffic Disruptions

Anderson Franco Law

A multi-vehicle collision occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 880 near the Bascom Avenue offramp in San Jose on the morning of December 13, 2024. The incident, which was reported at approximately 8:46 AM, involved at least four vehicles, including a black BMW M4 and a black BMW X3. The collision resulted in significant traffic disruptions as two of the vehicles blocked lane four, and one vehicle veered off the roadway.

Emergency services, including the California Highway Patrol and local fire departments, responded promptly to the scene. Airbags were deployed in one of the vehicles, and a nanny with children in her vehicle requested medical assistance as a precaution. Fortunately, there have been no reports of severe injuries at this time, though the incident did cause considerable damage to the involved vehicles.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and consider alternative routes as cleanup and towing operations continue. The authorities have cleared the incident, but residual traffic delays may persist. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate event, and we urge all drivers to remain vigilant and prioritize safety on the roads.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone gets hurt because of another person’s carelessness, it’s called negligence. In these cases, the person who got hurt might have the right to ask for money to help with their recovery. To prove negligence, the injured person must show that the other person had a duty to be careful, didn’t act carefully, and that this caused the injury. For example, if a driver doesn’t pay attention and causes an accident, they might be responsible for the harm caused.

Victims of such incidents can often make claims against the insurance of the person who was careless. This is because most people have insurance to cover accidents. The insurance company might pay for things like medical bills and other costs related to the injury. It’s important for victims to report the accident to the insurance company as soon as possible and provide all the details they can.

Sometimes, the insurance company might not want to pay what the victim thinks is fair. In these cases, the victim might need to talk to a lawyer to help them get the right amount of money. Lawyers can help by negotiating with the insurance company or even going to court if needed. It’s important for victims to know their rights and get the help they need to recover fully.
