Hit-and-Run Incident on SR87 in San Jose Leaves Multiple Injured

Anderson Franco Law

A hit-and-run collision involving three vehicles occurred early Thursday morning on State Route 87 near the US 101 North connector in San Jose. The incident was reported at approximately 6:36 AM, involving two gray Honda vehicles and a dark SUV. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they found the vehicles blocking lanes two and three, causing significant traffic disruptions.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) initially classified the incident as a traffic collision with unknown injuries but later updated it to a hit-and-run with injuries. The collision resulted in the temporary closure of lanes three and four, although all lanes were reopened by 7:31 AM. The authorities have not yet disclosed the number of individuals injured or the severity of their injuries, but emergency medical services were on site to provide necessary assistance.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traveling through the area as investigations continue. The CHP is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to aid in identifying the driver responsible for the hit-and-run. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate event, and we hope for their swift recovery.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone gets hurt because of another person’s carelessness, it’s called negligence. In these cases, the person who got hurt might have the right to get help or money for what happened to them. To prove negligence, the injured person needs to show that the other person had a duty to be careful, didn’t do their duty, and that this caused the injury. For example, if someone is driving a car, they have a duty to follow traffic rules and drive safely. If they don’t, and someone gets hurt, the driver might be responsible.

Victims of negligence can often make claims with insurance companies. If the person who caused the injury has insurance, the victim can file a claim to get money for things like medical bills or damage to their property. It’s important for victims to report the incident to the insurance company as soon as possible and provide all the details they can. This helps the insurance company understand what happened and decide how much money to give.

Sometimes, the insurance company might not offer enough money to cover all the costs. In these cases, the victim might need to talk to a lawyer to help them get a fair amount. Lawyers can help by negotiating with the insurance company or even taking the case to court if needed. It’s important for victims to know their rights and get the help they need to recover from what happened.
