Major Traffic Collision on I-280 in San Bruno Leaves Pedestrian Seriously Injured

Anderson Franco Law

A serious traffic collision occurred early this morning on Interstate 280 southbound near Crystal Springs Road in San Bruno, resulting in major injuries to a pedestrian. The incident was reported at approximately 6:34 AM when a silver Toyota Prius struck a pedestrian on the roadway. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) initially categorized the incident as a fatality before updating it to a major injury collision.

The collision led to significant disruptions in the area, with the San Bruno on-ramp to southbound I-280 temporarily closed to facilitate emergency response efforts. Tow services were requested for the involved vehicle, and the roadway was reopened after approximately an hour of closure. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been disclosed, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traveling through the area and to remain vigilant for pedestrians, especially during early morning hours when visibility may be reduced. Our thoughts are with the injured individual and their family during this difficult time.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone is hurt because of another person’s carelessness, it is called negligence. In these cases, the person who got hurt might have the right to get help or money for what happened. To prove negligence, the injured person must show that the other person had a duty to be careful, did not act carefully, and that this lack of care caused the injury. For example, if a driver does not pay attention and causes an accident, they might be responsible for the harm that comes from it.

Victims of such incidents can seek compensation for their injuries. This compensation can cover things like medical bills, lost wages, and other costs related to the injury. Sometimes, the person who caused the injury has insurance that can help pay for these costs. The injured person can file a claim with the insurance company to try to get this compensation. It is important for victims to keep records of all expenses and impacts related to the injury to support their claim.

Insurance claims can be complex, and it might be helpful for victims to get legal advice. A lawyer can help make sure that the victim’s rights are protected and that they get the compensation they deserve. The lawyer can also help negotiate with the insurance company to reach a fair settlement. If a settlement cannot be reached, the case might go to court, where a judge or jury will decide the outcome.
