Major Traffic Collision on SR-24 in Oakland Causes Significant Delays
A significant traffic collision involving a semi-truck occurred early this morning on westbound State Route 24, just west of the Caldecott Tunnel in Oakland. The incident, reported at 4:55 AM, resulted in the semi-truck overturning and blocking lanes 1 through 3, causing substantial traffic disruptions.
Emergency services, including the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Caltrans, responded promptly to the scene. The overturned truck, which was carrying lawn sod, spilled its load across all lanes, further complicating the situation. A SigAlert was issued, and all westbound lanes were temporarily closed, with traffic being diverted to northbound SR-13. Tow trucks and cleanup crews were dispatched to clear the debris and restore traffic flow.
Fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported. However, the incident has caused significant delays for morning commuters. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes. The CHP and Caltrans are working diligently to reopen the lanes and ensure the safety of all travelers. Our thoughts are with those affected by this morning’s accident.
