Major Traffic Collision on SR-85 in San Jose Leaves Multiple Injured

Anderson Franco Law

A serious traffic collision involving three vehicles occurred on State Route 85 near the Almaden Expressway northbound on-ramp in San Jose on Friday, March 21, 2025, at approximately 5:18 PM. The incident, initially reported as a collision with unknown injuries, was later updated to a major injury collision by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The crash resulted in significant disruptions, with lanes 2, 3, and 4 blocked, causing traffic delays in the area. Emergency services, including South Bay Tow, were dispatched to the scene to assist with the aftermath and clear the roadway. The CHP has confirmed that multiple individuals sustained major injuries, though the exact number of those injured has not been disclosed.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes to minimize congestion and allow emergency responders to work efficiently. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate incident, and we urge drivers to exercise caution and remain vigilant on the roads.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone is hurt because another person wasn’t careful, it’s called negligence. In these cases, the person who got hurt might have the right to get help or money to make up for what happened. To show that someone was negligent, you usually need to prove four things: duty, breach, causation, and damages. This means you have to show that the person who caused the harm had a responsibility to be careful, didn’t do that, and because of that, someone got hurt.

For example, if a driver doesn’t pay attention to the road and causes an accident, they might be considered negligent. The driver had a duty to drive safely, but they didn’t, and this caused someone else to get hurt. The person who got hurt can then ask for compensation to cover things like medical bills and other costs related to the accident.

Insurance can play a big role in these situations. Most drivers have insurance that can help pay for damages if they cause an accident. The person who got hurt can file a claim with the insurance company to get money for their injuries and other losses. It’s important for the injured person to keep track of all their expenses and any other ways the accident has affected their life, as this information will be needed when making an insurance claim.

In some cases, the insurance company might not want to pay the full amount needed to cover the damages. If this happens, the injured person might need to get help from a lawyer to make sure they get what they deserve. A lawyer can help negotiate with the insurance company or even take the case to court if necessary. It’s important for victims to know their rights and to seek help if they feel they’re not being treated fairly.
