Multi-Vehicle Collision Causes Major Delays on SR-87 in San Jose

Anderson Franco Law

A significant traffic collision involving five vehicles occurred on the northbound lanes of State Route 87, just north of State Route 85, in San Jose on the morning of March 4, 2025. The incident was reported at approximately 8:21 AM, leading to the closure of the left lanes and causing substantial traffic delays in the area.

The collision involved a red Tesla, a black Honda Accord, a white Ford, and two other unidentified vehicles. Emergency services, including the San Jose Fire Department, were promptly dispatched to the scene to assess and manage the situation. Tow trucks from multiple companies were also called to assist in clearing the vehicles from the roadway. As of the latest reports, the extent of injuries remains unknown, but the presence of emergency medical services indicates potential injuries.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes to minimize congestion. The California Highway Patrol has issued a SigAlert, warning drivers to expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through the affected area. Our thoughts are with those involved in the accident, and we hope for their swift recovery.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone is hurt because another person was careless, it is called negligence. In a situation where a car accident happens, the person who caused the accident might be considered negligent if they were not following the rules of the road. For example, if they were speeding, not paying attention, or breaking any traffic laws, they could be held responsible for the accident. The victims of the accident have the right to seek compensation for what happened to them.

Victims can file a personal injury claim to get compensation for their losses. This can include things like medical bills, lost wages if they couldn’t work, and other costs related to the accident. To do this, they usually need to show that the other person was at fault and that their carelessness directly caused the accident. Sometimes, this can be settled outside of court, but other times it might need to go to trial.

Insurance can play a big role in these situations. The person who caused the accident might have insurance that can help cover the costs. Victims can file a claim with the at-fault person’s insurance company to try to get compensation. It’s important for victims to keep records of everything related to the accident, like medical visits and any other expenses, to support their claim. If the insurance company does not offer a fair settlement, the victims might need to consider legal action to get what they deserve.
