Multi-Vehicle Collision Causes Major Delays on US 101 in San Rafael

Anderson Franco Law

A significant traffic collision involving multiple vehicles occurred on the northbound lanes of US 101 near the North San Pedro Road offramp in San Rafael on the evening of November 5, 2024. The incident, reported at approximately 5:28 PM, involved a white Nissan sedan, a red Honda sedan, and a black pickup truck, among others. Emergency services, including an off-duty EMT, responded swiftly to the scene to assist those involved.

The collision resulted in the blockage of the first and second lanes, causing substantial traffic delays in the area. Debris was reported across all lanes, further complicating the situation. A request for a SigAlert was made to manage the traffic congestion effectively. Tow trucks from Valley Towing and Corte Madera Tow were dispatched to expedite the clearing of the vehicles and debris.

Tragically, one individual was reported trapped inside a vehicle, requiring urgent medical attention. The California Highway Patrol and local fire services were on-site to provide assistance and ensure the safety of all involved. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes while the cleanup and investigation continue. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate incident.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone gets hurt because of another person’s carelessness, it’s called negligence. In a situation like a car accident, if a driver wasn’t paying attention or was doing something unsafe, they might be responsible for the harm caused. The person who got hurt, called the victim, has the right to seek help and possibly get compensation for what happened to them. This means they can ask for money to cover things like medical bills or other costs related to the accident.

Victims of accidents can also make insurance claims. This is when they ask an insurance company to help pay for the costs of the accident. If the person who caused the accident has insurance, their insurance might cover the victim’s expenses. Sometimes, the victim’s own insurance can help too, especially if the person who caused the accident doesn’t have enough insurance. It’s important for victims to report the accident to their insurance company as soon as possible to start this process.

In some cases, the insurance company might not want to pay what the victim thinks is fair. When this happens, the victim might need to talk to a lawyer. A lawyer can help the victim understand their rights and figure out the best way to get the compensation they deserve. It’s important for victims to know that they have options and that they don’t have to handle everything on their own.
