Multi-Vehicle Collision on US101 in San Carlos Causes Major Traffic Disruptions

Anderson Franco Law

A significant traffic collision involving multiple vehicles occurred on the southbound US101 near Whipple Avenue in San Carlos on January 14, 2025, at approximately 5:05 PM. The incident involved a semi-truck that veered off the road, crashing through a fence and into the parking lot of a nearby Best Buy store. The collision initially blocked the slow lane and involved at least seven vehicles, with three vehicles obstructing the freeway and two others in the parking lot.

Emergency services, including the California Highway Patrol and local fire departments, responded promptly to the scene. The collision was initially reported as involving major injuries, but was later downgraded as emergency services arrived and assessed the situation. Tow trucks were dispatched to remove the severely damaged vehicles, including a blue Toyota Tacoma and a blue Nissan sedan, both of which sustained significant damage.

The incident caused substantial traffic delays in the area, with all lanes eventually reopened after the scene was cleared. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant while driving through the area, as cleanup and recovery efforts continue. Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate event, and we hope for a swift recovery for any injured parties.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone gets hurt because of another person’s carelessness, it’s called negligence. In these cases, the person who got hurt might have the right to get help or money for what happened to them. To prove negligence, the injured person needs to show that the other person had a duty to be careful, didn’t do their duty, and that this caused the injury. For example, if someone is driving a car, they have a duty to follow traffic rules and drive safely. If they don’t, and someone gets hurt, the driver might be responsible.

Victims of negligence can often make claims to get money for their injuries. This money can help pay for things like medical bills, lost wages, and other costs related to the injury. Sometimes, the person who caused the injury has insurance that can help cover these costs. For example, if the injury happened in a car accident, the driver’s car insurance might pay for the damages. It’s important for victims to report the accident to the insurance company as soon as possible to start the claims process.

Insurance claims can be complicated, and it’s important for victims to know their rights. They should keep records of everything related to the accident, like medical bills and any communication with the insurance company. Sometimes, insurance companies might try to pay less than what the victim deserves. In these cases, it might be helpful for the victim to talk to a lawyer who knows about personal injury cases. A lawyer can help make sure the victim gets a fair amount of money for their injuries.
