Pedestrian Struck in Traffic Collision on SR-87 in San Jose

Anderson Franco Law

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the southbound lanes of State Route 87 at the Almaden Expressway offramp in San Jose late Saturday night. The incident occurred at approximately 10:23 PM on March 22, 2025, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.

According to initial reports, the collision took place in the slow lane, where the pedestrian was hit by an oncoming vehicle. Emergency medical services were promptly notified and dispatched to the scene. Units were assigned and en route by 10:31 PM, with the first responders arriving at the scene by 10:52 PM. The condition of the pedestrian remains undisclosed at this time.

This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, especially in areas with pedestrian traffic, and pedestrians are advised to use designated crossings and remain vigilant. Our thoughts are with the victim and their loved ones during this difficult time.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone is hurt because another person was careless, it is called negligence. In these cases, the person who got hurt might have the right to get help or money for what happened to them. To prove negligence, the injured person must show that the other person had a duty to be careful, did not act carefully, and that this lack of care caused the injury. For example, if a driver is not paying attention and causes an accident, they might be considered negligent.

Victims of negligence can often make claims to get money for their medical bills, lost wages, and other costs related to the incident. This is called a personal injury claim. The person who caused the injury, or their insurance company, might have to pay for these costs. It is important for victims to keep records of all their expenses and any other evidence that shows how the injury has affected their life.

Insurance can play a big role in these situations. Many people have insurance that covers accidents, like car insurance or homeowner’s insurance. If the person who caused the injury has insurance, the victim might be able to file a claim with that insurance company. The insurance company will then investigate the claim and decide if they will pay for the damages. Sometimes, insurance companies might try to offer less money than what the victim needs, so it can be helpful for victims to talk to a lawyer who knows about personal injury cases.
