Traffic Collision on I-280 in San Jose Causes Road Closure

Anderson Franco Law

A traffic collision occurred this morning on Interstate 280 South at the Meridian Avenue offramp in San Jose, resulting in a temporary road closure. The incident was reported at approximately 8:39 AM on March 13, 2025. Emergency services, including fire personnel, were promptly dispatched to the scene.

The collision involved a white Toyota Camry, whose driver was found slumped over the wheel, and a white cargo pickup truck that had overturned on its side. The southbound lane was partially blocked, causing significant traffic delays in the area. Authorities closed the cloverleaf to eastbound Meridian Avenue to facilitate the response and requested a heavy-duty flatbed tow truck to clear the vehicles.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while the cleanup and investigation are underway. Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident, and we urge drivers to exercise caution and remain vigilant on the roads.

Potential Legal Considerations

When someone is hurt because another person did not act carefully, it is called negligence. In a situation where a person is injured, the law looks at whether someone else did something wrong that caused the injury. For example, if a driver does not pay attention and causes an accident, they might be considered negligent. The injured person, called the victim, has the right to seek help from the law to get compensation for what happened to them.

Victims of negligence can file a personal injury claim. This means they can ask for money to cover things like medical bills, lost wages, and other costs related to the incident. The victim needs to show that the other person was not careful and that this lack of care directly caused their injury. If the court agrees, the victim might receive money to help them recover and move on with their life.

Insurance can also play a big role in these situations. Many people have insurance that covers accidents, like car insurance. If the person who caused the injury has insurance, the victim can file a claim with the insurance company. The insurance company might pay for some or all of the victim’s expenses. However, sometimes insurance companies do not want to pay the full amount, so the victim might need to negotiate or even go to court to get what they deserve.
